Seaside Heights, New Jersey: Long before Snooki was fist pumping at the Jersey Shore, travelers have enjoyed cheap weekend getaways at wildly popular Seaside Heights. After spending a day on the sand, take a leisurely stroll along the famous Seaside Heights boardwalk where you can be a kid again with one mile worth of arcade games and amusement park rides. This boardwalk destination also includes a wide array of inexpensive accommodations, restaurants and shopping.
Baltimore, Maryland: Situated alongside the Patapsco River, Baltimore offers visitors plenty to do year-round. But the main attraction is the city's Inner Harbor, which boasts one of the world's most beautiful and largest aquariums, tons of shopping and a plethora of deliciously affordable restaurants. Be sure to catch a Baltimore Orioles baseball game at Camden Yards with tickets starting at only $9 -- perfect for cheap weekend getaways in the summertime!
Brooklyn, New York: Escape the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple and spend a cheap weekend in the city's most popular outer borough. Whether you decide to roam and relax in the 585-acre green oasis known as Prospect Park or spend a day noshing on Nathan's hot dogs and riding the Cyclone at Coney Island, Brooklyn has plenty to offer budget travelers. After spending a day here you might say fugetaboutit to heading back to pricier Manhattan.
Charlottesville, Virginia: The city of Charlottesville often times is tagged with being a pricey place to visit. However like most destinations, if you know where to look, chances are you will find a few cheap or even free things to do. A few attractions include taking a tour of the University of Virginia, aka "The Ivy of the South" and visiting the university's museum, which offers free admission! Then hop on the free trolley and head to the Downtown Mall to write something creative on the Free Speech Wall.
Providence, Rhode Island: The capital and most populous city in Rhode Island is also a great destination to spend a cheap weekend getaway. Providence's most well known attraction is the seasonal WaterFire sculpture, which is 100 bonfires lit on three rivers in the downtown area. Designed by sculptor Barnaby Evans, WaterFire occurs each Saturday between late May and late October. Looking for even more affordable culture? Then check out the Rhode Island School of Design, which offers free admissions on Sundays before 1pm.
