Register Early
This year's race takes place on April 3, 2011. Registration for the annual Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run takes place each fall and often sells out within a few hours. If you didn't enter the race and still wish to do so, you may obtain a "race transfer" from runners who are no longer able to participate. The program is open from Febraury 1, 2011 to February 28, 2011 and has some associated fees. There's also a message board for those looking to obtain a transfer.
Train, Train, Train
While the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler does include a 5K option, most runners will opt for the full distance. 10 miles is quite the run, and above what your average runner does in any given workout. Consider joining a training program. New Balance is sponsoring virtual and in-person training programs.
Take Metro
The easiest way to get anywhere in Washington DC on the day of the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler is to take Metro. Visit wmata.com to figure out how best to get to the race start from your hotel or start destination. Another tip: buy a farecard in advance, as lines on race day will be huge. If you plan on parking at a Metro station or using Metro transport for a few days, consider investing in a $5 SmarTrip card. This credit card-like device allows you to pay for parking and can be registered to help you retain any remaining funds, even if you lose the card.
Plan on Driving Delays
Road closures will abound on race day. If you're not a race participant but simply an observer, consider taking Metro as well. The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler begins close to the Smithsonian stop, and parking in that area is already limited. There will also be a bike valet program available.
Take Your Allergy Meds
The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler's biggest issue for many runners? Pollen. The falling blossoms, while beautiful, can wreak havoc on your sinuses. Bring tissues and some OTC meds!
Watch the Weather
It's April in Washington. That means the weather is anyone's best guess - the city has seen 70 degrees and sun and 50 degrees and rain. Plan on somewhere in-between, and dress appropriately.
Book Your Hotel ... Yesterday
The host hotel for the event is Grand Hyatt Washington, located at Metro Center. While there are a number of other hotels in the area, you'll want to consider making your reservations for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler immediately, if you haven't already. It's a popular time for tourists as well as runners, and room space may be limited.

ALCON,
Started (just started) a new free website for people to post their spare room(s), house during an event that is occuring in their area (such as the Cherry Blossom Festival and other activities). This is a great oppurtunity for locals to make a little cash and for travelers to have/ find other options for places to stay as they enjoy the event! (Site is new, lets see where it goes!)
