With an address that would make numerology enthusiasts swoon, at 44 West 44th Street, The Royalton's prime location is across from the historic Algonquin and close to Grand Central Station. The entrance, almost hidden, leads into a darkly mood-lit lobby. The discretely placed front desk, concierge and bell desk areas are all close by to be available, but do not dominate the reception area. The floor to ceiling hand-forged bronze fireplace sets the stage. Designed by Roman and Williams, the sophisticated lobby mixes cut glass elements with steel, thick leather walls and suede and hide furniture with several sunken lounges and seating areas with fire elements throughout.
Towards the back of the lobby, don't miss the cocktail lounge, the Forty Four. The Morgan's Hotel Group opened the Forty Four lounge at the Royalton with a cocktails menu created by the Cocktail Collective. With the expert advice of six of the country's best bartenders, including Richard Boccato of Weather Up in Tribecca and Eric Alperin from The Varnish in Los Angeles, the menu at Forty Four includes classic cocktails, punch bowls, and new original creations. The inspired Reconciliation is made with rye whiskey, Amaro Lucano and house made orgeat. To pair with the drinks the bar menu includes delicious flatbread with duck confit and dried cherries, risotto poppers with sage, and decadent little cheeseburger sandwiches.
Designed by Philippe Starck, rooms at the Royalton feature clean lines and sleek minimalism. On the desk, an iPad is docked ready for guests loaded with maps and other helpful apps. The glossy dark wood headboards on beds with soft white sheets fit well with the minimalist style. In the bathroom, slate showers and round tubs with tiny sparkling tiles add glamour. Rooms range from a comfortable standard to three chic penthouse suites.
The Royalton's location offers convenient access to the best of New York. Each day, guests return to a sophisticated retreat hidden from the bustle of the city and a vibrant lobby lounge scene to enjoy some of the best cocktails in Manhattan.
