Best Luxury Austin Hotels
AOL Travel contributor Andrew Hickey has written a solid article about mid-level to luxury Austin hotels in his piece "Six SXSW Hotels to Check Into in Austin." Most of the hotels he mentions are in and around the downtown area, making it extremely convenient for those wanting to be close to the South by Southwest action. Therefore, I'll only briefly add to this topic.
One hotel that isn't mentioned that I have to give props to is The Westin Austin at The Domain. At almost 20 minutes from downtown, it may not be much of an option for SXSW fans looking to be central to the festivities; however, I'm very impressed with this hotel. As four-star hotels go, The Westin Austin dazzles with elegance that never dominates the senses. With three different classes of rooms, impeccable service, and more amenities than can be named, this Austin hotel will appease all but the most discerning of travelers.

Best Budget Austin Hotels
There are three budget hotels that are highly rated among travelers to Austin. Sadly none of them are in downtown Austin, and in fact all three are approximately 10 to 15 minutes away in various parts of the city. Still, considering the prices of many of the hotels downtown, exchanging a short drive for great hotel value is quite reasonable.
If being close to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is important to you, the Super 8 – Austin Airport South is the closest. Ok, so a Super 8 may not typically be at the top of your hotel list when your travel, but give it a chance in Austin. Ranked first by business travelers at TripAdvisor, this Super 8 gets rave reviews for clean, comfortable rooms and fantastic service for much less than you'd pay at most downtown hotels. A little farther away from the airport - but equally nice - is the Super 8 – Austin Airport North. Also rated highly on TripAdvisor, this Super 8 has nearly identical services to its southern site, including shuttle, complimentary breakfast buffet, and an exercise facility.
Finally, if you need to be in a more northerly location, you should consider the Ramada Austin Central. Like the Super 8 hotels, you're getting great value for your dollar. A full complimentary breakfast, tidy rooms, and friendly staff all make this Ramada one of the best Austin hotels. They also make great options for those who are planning on experiencing SXSW on a budget this coming March. Don't forget to check out some of the best tacos in Austin while you're there!
Ramada Austin Central: 919 East Koenig Lane, Austin, TX 78751 (512) 454-1144
Super 8 – Austin Airport North: 5606 East 51st Street, Austin, TX 78723 (512) 926-5100
Super 8 – Austin Airport South: 3120 Montopolis Drive, Austin, TX 78744 (512) 334-4130
