Sex on Croatian Yacht Leads to Severed Hand, Missing British Tourist

Croatian police are searching for a British vacationer who fled the scene after a girl he was having sex with in the bathroom of a luxury yacht slipped and nearly sliced her hand off on a sink.

The girl, a 28-year-old from New Zealand identified to the press as Amy R., is in stable condition following a six hour operation, but nearly died while her paramour hoofed it.

Kraijevic Gudelj, a police spokesman, told the Daily Mail that, "They were engaged in a passionate act in the bathroom where at some stage the sink broke - leaving a jagged edge that severed the woman's hand when she fell to the floor."

Gudelj added, "we want to track [lover boy] down to find out his side of the story."

The couple was en flagrant delicto on the good ship Vaska, which was moored just off the popular Adriatic island of Pakleni Otoci, a famous celebrity hangout.

Amy R. did not give a public statement. Odds are, she won't.

Hatton Garden: Where London Gets Engaged

If the royal wedding has inspired you to plan a special date of your own, there is a hidden gem in London where you are sure to find the perfect engagement ring: Hatton Garden.

Within the area of just a few blocks there are over 300 jewelry showrooms and workshops, making Hatton Garden the largest cluster of jewelry retailers the UK has to offer. From vintage stones to cutting-edge masterpieces, every style, cut, color and era is represented.

Although Hatton Garden has been the center of London's jewelry industry since medieval times, the treasured spot remains off the tourist circuit map.

"We're totally divorced from the city," jokes Stephen Berman, the manager at Arlington & Co., a vertically integrated jewelry shop in Hatton Garden.

In 1981, Arlington & Co. made replicas of the famous diamond-and-sapphire engagement ring Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana - the ring that is now on Kate Middleton's finger. Berman says only a handful of the ring replicas were made, and 30 years later he is "glad to say [he] finally sold the last replica."

"The most popular ring is perfectly plain," reports Berman, who says about a third of the guys who come into the showroom are surprising their girlfriends with an engagement ring and are completely "scared stiff" about the process. Still, he believes catching a woman off guard with a ring is the best way to propose. "It's romantic," he says.

Down the street at the much more contemporary Nicholas James (pictured above), store representative Stuart Hutchinson says sales on sapphire engagement rings have boosted 60-70% since Prince William presented Kate Middleton with Lady Di's conventional 18-carat blue sapphire ring that is rimmed with diamonds.

But the organic designs showcased at Nicholas James are anything but traditional. "People see our store and come in if they're looking for something more contemporary," says Hutchinson.

If you're jewelry shopping for something uniquely London, stop by the not-for-profit showroom Platform (pictured above), where a team of experts handpicks jewelry from a range of UK designers.

Meri Tukala, a representative from the store, describes the Platform team's taste as "vintage with a modern edge."

She says the busiest time in Hatton Garden is on Saturday, when a surge of couples and unescorted men can be seen "going from shop to shop." Those who stop in Platform have found a good place to start: each showcase is different, allowing ring shoppers to look at a variety of options and get an idea of where to go next if they aren't already sold on a ring.

Kevin Caruth, the founder of the private tour group Urban Gentry, knows just how daunting the task of jewelry shopping can be; he estimates there are around 125 storefronts and jewelry shops in Hatton Garden, with an additional 200 jewelry workshops and industry-related properties in the area.

If you're interested in buying a piece of jewelry and don't know where to start, consider organizing a tailor-made tour with an insider at Urban Gentry. The guide can do some research on what type of jewelry you are looking for and then introduce you to store owners and help you shop around.

On the other hand, if you're just looking to get to know the history of Hatton Garden, get in touch with the London Greeters. The Greeters are a volunteer team of tour guides who are ready and willing to lead visitors through their favorite neighborhoods - and they are so passionate they do it at no cost.

In the end, if the engagement doesn't end up going as planned, there's a place for that in Hatton Garden, too: The Bleeding Heart Tavern (pictured below), a French restaurant named in honor of the bloody murder of Lady Hatton in 1626, who is said to have been "torn limb from limb with her heart still pumping blood into the cobblestones" by her jealous lover.

Affordable beach weddings are totally within your reach, if you plan your nuptials to be either hotel-adjacent or DIY on a public beach. Here's how to make them happen.

Hotel-adjacent beach weddings are the best option for busy people. Hotels love to host weddings, as it means income and possibly even a fair amount of guests for them. Both hotels in your area and hotels at popular destination wedding locales are likely to have multiple wedding packages for you to choose from. They may look steep at first, but they often include everything from the officiant to the flowers and the cake. Allowing the hotel to sort out all the details (seating, the permit, an aisle and an altar, for example) will certainly save you time, and time is money. Right? Right.

Furthermore, hotels often offer an indoor-outdoor reception space, catering, and all the other stuff you were dreading to organize.

If you're convinced you can save more by doing it yourself - i.e. your dad is a florist and your mom works in chair rentals - having the ceremony on a public beach may be the best choice for you.

First, choose your favorite local beach. Then check with your local state department to see if a permit is required, because having your wedding busted up by the cops is a major faux pas. If there's a large fee, consider your second favorite beach.

Get a friend to officiate (they can be ordained online these days), make the programs yourself, and avoid big flower costs by using draped fabrics and fasten them tight in case the wind picks up. Less is more: plenty of people have affordable beach weddings by letting the landscape be the decor.

You'll need some family members or friends to show up early and claim your wedding spot, lest your aisle be occupied by sunbathers - and make sure they take a look at the tide schedule, or they may choose a lovely place that quickly disappears. Lastly, be sure to reserve a secondary location just in case the weather has a cruel sense of humor on your big day.

That should get you started on affordable beach weddings.

While many adults-only resorts are also all-inclusive, not all all-inclusive resorts are adults-only. Make sure you do due diligence and verify that a resort is truly an adult all-inclusive resort. What I like in particular with this site is how it clearly shows not only more information about such resorts, but also their category, minimum age, resort type, and star rating. This kind of organized information makes it simple for travelers to find an adults-only all-inclusive resort that meets their needs.

Aside from the previously mentioned CMtravelonline.com, you have several options for discovering good deals on adult all-inclusive resorts. AOL Travel offers regularly updated listings of the best adults-only travel deals. As of this writing, AOL Travel was listing a deal with 20 percent off of a five-star adult-only all-inclusive resort in a Cancun. Beyond that, you could turn to Orbitz. They have a special listing of adults-only vacations, most of them at all-inclusive resorts. And if you're still not sure which resort is right for you, you can always consider a travel agent.

On the Beach Weddings: Planning Ahead Reduces the Risk of Disaster

So you and your betrothed are determined to begin your journey into marital bliss on the beach. Weddings on the sand can be extremely romantic, but few marriage ceremonies go off without a hitch, and beach weddings can present some unusual challenges. Here are a few pointers to make sure on-the-beach weddings flow as smoothly as gentle waves breaking on the sand.

Have a Plan B
This tip is first because it's the most important: Mother Nature is fickle. No matter what the weather forecast, things can change quickly on the beach.

Weddings have been ruined by more than rain, though. Strong winds can whip up a sandstorm, algae blooms can raise an overpowering stench, and of course summer means hurricane season.

Making matters more uncertain, your wedding planning likely begins months before the actual ceremony. Other than perhaps consulting the Old Farmers' Almanac, you'll likely have no clue what the weather will be on your wedding day.

That's where a Plan B comes in. At the very least, you should pencil in a couple of hours of rain-delay time. If you're lucky, you know someone who owns a big house nearby where you can move the ceremony if necessary. Otherwise, contact local chapels, churches, restaurants, convention halls and hotels to determine if they might have room on your wedding day. Depending on your budget, you might want to put down a deposit to hold the space, just in case.

Memories, and Photos, Last Forever
Find a wedding photographer who is experienced with beach photography. He or she will tell you to schedule the wedding for late afternoon because the natural light at sunset is the most ideal for shooting photos on the beach. Weddings only last about fifteen minutes or so; the photos will be around for a while.

Be sure to consult with several photographers before choosing one. Don't rely on Uncle Bob, who has a "really nice camera" and a knack for taking snapshots. Your photographer can also offer tips on what type of attire will best work for photos on the beach (seersucker and sandals, anyone?).

Scout It Out
Do your homework. Choose the beach where you want to be married, and then make sure it's allowed! Some municipalities forbid on-the-beach weddings.

Try to keep your guest list in mind, too. If you live in Atlanta, you might want to have the wedding on, say, a beach in Florida rather than Hawaii. More guests will be able to make it (unless your family and friends all live in Hawaii). Save the exotic locale for the honeymoon.

Hire a Pro
The world is full of folks who make a business out of planning weddings. Just make sure, as with the photographer, that you consult with several wedding planners and that the one you choose has experience with weddings on the beach. There are few life events more stressful than planning weddings - on the beach or not - that you can gain a lot of peace of mind by putting the nuts and bolts into someone else's hands.

So, you've booked your romantic beach getaway. Great! But ... what's that niggling anxious feeling about? Nervousness? Nervousness bordering on (gasp) dread??

Don't worry, it's normal. You're not an unlovable freak (well, you might be, but it's not because of this). An impending romantic beach vacation is more than just exciting; it's also a whole lot of pressure. Suddenly, you may find yourself worrying that you need to lose five pounds, come up with a better personality and get completely different hair, all in time for your vacation, in order to make it the romantic beach getaway of your dreams. The good news is: you don't have to do any of that. You are actually good enough as you are to have a romantic vacation. As. Is.

Now, what to do with those nervous feelings? Here are some great ways to make a romantic beach getaway more romantic:

1. Bring your own love.

Romantic beach getaways are all about a change of scenery and throwing your relationship into a new setting to stir things up. You never know how your partner is going to react, so make a decision ahead of time to be okay with all of it. Bring the love. Love them through every misguided decision and bizarre little tantrum. As mentioned above, a romantic beach getaway is a lot of pressure, so be prepared for one of you to freak out a bit about something stupid, especially at first.

2. Plan some surprises.

The element of surprise is essential for romance. Bring a secret gift for your partner, or tell them that you're "taking them on an adventure on Saturday" (so that they know you're planning something and that they shouldn't expect to be lying on the beach that day).

3. Ask for help.

It may cost a little more, but ask your hotel what they do for honeymooners and/or consider upgrading to a "romance" package of some kind. These packages can include things like couples' massages, horseback riding, champagne dinners on the beach and more. Furthermore, your hotel will know all the best local restaurants with the loveliest views, as well as the swankiest ways to get there (Limo? Boat? Horse-drawn carriage ride??). Don't go in blindly!

The musically-themed resort, opened last summer, offers a luxury spa (each of the VIP suites offers room for two!), fine dining, and a private boat dock for the likes of A-listers like George Clooney (whose home is across the lake). For fun, head via boat to the nearby town of Bellagio or hop the border to Lugano, Switzerland, which boasts some of the area's best outlet shopping.
