Portland's Sentinel, Aloft Atlanta Downtown and Andy Murray's Cromlix in Scotland highlight the world's recent hotel openings.

Portland, Oregon: Sentinel

Located in a West End building that earlier was home to one of Portland's first luxury hotels, an Elk's Lodge and scenes in Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho, the Sentinel opened last month. The 100-room boutique is named after the robotic architectural sculptures that adorn the top of the building (near the rooftop beehive). And, in addition to a pillow menu and an iPod menu, the Sentinel offers a pet spiritual menu. Because Portland. Rates start at around $233 (pet-friendly rooms are $45 extra per stay).

Atlanta, Georgia: Aloft Atlanta Downtown

HotelChatter reports the camera-shy (hence the rendering below) Aloft Atlanta Downtown opened last week in a former Days Inn. While the 263 rooms include chic amenities (like 42-inch flat screen TVs, WiFi and Bliss bath products), the boutique's re:fuel by Aloft restaurant and xyz bar will get you out of your bed. Care to go further afield? Atlanta's World of Coca-Cola is just a short walk away. Rates start around $149.

Kinbuck, Scotland: Cromlix

Tennis star -- and, yes, Wimbledon winner -- Andy Murray opened this Victorian Perthshire mansion as a luxury 15-bedroom hotel last week. Located 10 minutes from his hometown of Dunblane, it's also near Gleneagles, home of this September's Ryder Cup. But enough about sport: let's talk linens. All rooms "boast luxurious Peter Reed 400 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen and Cromlix's bespoke range of sumptuous Arran Aromatics toiletries." Located on 34 acres of woodlands and gardens, the hotel has a restaurant, reception hall, two drawing rooms, conservatory, dining room, snooker (yes, snooker!) and meeting rooms. As for Murray's involvement in the Cromlix's design, he named all the rooms, using famous Scots as his inspiration (like Robert Burns, Robert the Bruce and Sir Alex Ferguson). Rates start at £199.00 ($333) per night.
