IHOP's National Pancake Day Is Today, But Check Out These Bigger Pancakes

Granted, pancakes exist in other countries (the Swedes, for example, do an excellent version), but not in the same form as the classic American take. While IHOP's serving complimentary short stacks of buttermilks pancakes today from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., there's a time and a place for flapjacks that are a little bigger. So check out these seven non-IHOP spots, where you can be sure to get pancakes the size of your head.
1. City Diner, New Orleans, Louisiana
About the size of a medium pizza, the pancake at City Diner, located in Metairie (just outside of New Orleans), can be cooked up to an inch thick, with people get them to go in pizza boxes. That's a lot of pancake. It all started a few years ago when a little extra batter accidentally was dumped on the grill. The accident turned trademark, and nowadays, you can order this monster pancake whenever you want.
2. Gronsky's Milkhouse, High Bridge, New Jersey
If you ever find yourself on I-78 in New Jersey, stop at Gronsky's for its blueberry pancakes. Well, you may just want to make it one single pancake, as they're known for their size.
3. The Griddle Cafe, Los Angeles, California
While Los Angeles is known for super-skinny actresses, there is nothing super skinny about the Griddle Cafe. These big pancakes are serious business, including the Black Magic, flapjacks filled with crushed Oreos and topped with whipped cream and -- you guessed it -- more Oreos.
4. Hash House a Go Go, Las Vegas, Nevada
At 14 inches in diameter, you'd be hard pressed to find a larger pancake than the signature Hash House a Go Go flapjacks. And just in case you're not hungry enough to eat a huge pancake for breakfast, you'll be happy to know that they're served all day.
5. Jim-Denny's, Sacramento, California
The pancakes at Jim-Denny's, which were so big they were featured on Man vs. Food, get up to 13 inches in diameter. It's known as the Hubcap, and if the 13-inch pancake just isn't enough for you (not judging!), order the Hubcap with Spokes, a pancake complete with six bacon strips or sausage links and an egg.
6. Prune, New York City, New York
The Dutch Style Pancake which you can get for brunch at Prune in New York City is practically as big as the plate. To make the dish extra special, it's served with a few rounds of Canadian bacon.
7. Country Pancake House, Bradenton, Florida
Actually, the original Country Pancake House is in New Jersey, but luckily enough you can get the enormous portions in Florida as well. There are more than 180 ways that you can order your pancakes (take that IHOP!) -- including choosing four medium or two oversized, which basically gets you two car tires worth of pancake love.
