New Restaurant: Bromberg Bros. Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken
Eric and Bruce Bromberg opened this 65-seat eat-in/take-out restaurant in August. You'll pay upwards of $20 for the brothers' award-winning chicken at their original West Village restaurant (Blue Ribbon Bakery), but pieces can be had a la carte for mere dollars at this East Village outpost. Don't forget to try the chicken burgers, salads, sides and ice cream.
Place to Bring a Little "Home" Home With You: KADOnyc
Newcomer KADOnyc has NYC-themed messenger bags, placemats and postcards, even dog toys shaped like yellow taxis and MetroCards. Alongside the Manhattan gear is a wide array of other quirky stocking stuffers -- chopsticks for kids, talking mustache key chains and retro magnets, to name a few. The store will wrap and ship all purchases.
Word on the Street
This year has been all about politics, from disgraced politicians unsuccessfully attempting comebacks to underdog Bill de Blasio becoming mayor in November. There's also much speculation about our impending post-Mayor Bloomberg NYC. And what will become of @ElBloombito, the hilarious Twitter handle that parodies our three-term mayor's every Spanish misstep?
