We like San Diego as a family getaway spot in October because for the second year in a row the city will be running a Kids Free promotion throughout the month. Families traveling with children can enjoy discounts or free entry to scores of the city's attractions.
The program ranges from trip basics like hotel specials, free meals, and transportation deals on top family activities including San Diego Bay cruises, San Diego Zoo tickets, SeaWorld San Diego entry and LEGOLAND admission.

Meanwhile, San Diego's weather in October is nothing to complain about -- the coastal city enjoys temperatures in the high 70s with an abundance of sunny days. Crowds are smaller around this time, which means you can score great rates at hotels, even if you're not taking advantage of the kid-friendly promotions. Military buffs will enjoy the end of Fleet Week, which celebrates the sailors, marines and coast guard members stationed in the city, the first weekend in October with the Miramar Air Show. Don't worry about family deals on this one -- it's free for everyone.
