As for what the merger means for travelers, Daily Finance runs down what should happen to frequent flyer miles, routes, fees and ticket costs.
In the story on Daily Finance, Airfarewatchdog's George Hobica says the merger could cause a ripple effect in the industry: "'Airlines hate to be No. 2,' Hobica said. For that reason, United and Delta might soon start looking to consolidate other small airlines, such as Frontier, Alaska and Hawaiian, to earn back the top spot in the industry. United's already taken Continental under its wing (thought it wasn't exactly a smooth transition)."
Not much should change soon, though. The merger could take a while to complete.
