Croatian police are searching for a British vacationer who fled the scene after a girl he was having sex with in the bathroom of a luxury yacht slipped and nearly sliced her hand off on a sink.

The girl, a 28-year-old from New Zealand identified to the press as Amy R., is in stable condition following a six hour operation, but nearly died while her paramour hoofed it.

Kraijevic Gudelj, a police spokesman, told the Daily Mail that, "They were engaged in a passionate act in the bathroom where at some stage the sink broke - leaving a jagged edge that severed the woman's hand when she fell to the floor."

Gudelj added, "we want to track [lover boy] down to find out his side of the story."

The couple was en flagrant delicto on the good ship Vaska, which was moored just off the popular Adriatic island of Pakleni Otoci, a famous celebrity hangout.

Amy R. did not give a public statement. Odds are, she won't.

This englishman had lunch in Split at Zrno Soli in ACI Marina a day or 2 after this accident. I was sitting on table nearby and overheard him speaking on mobile phone telling this story to someone, in which he said that he was staying in Split to make sure she was ok... what a jerk to have shot thru.

The article is both pointless and revolting. The photo with which you chose to illustrate it makes it worse. It's sneering and disrespectful to someone who did nothing to deserve what happened or the ensuing notoriety. And, as already noted, you don't know how to spell or use "in flagrante delicto" correctly.

A 28-year-old woman is not a girl.

The phrase is 'in flagrante delicto'. And Gurdelj did not use the words 'lover boy'. The tone of levity of this article is inappropriate. 'Hoofed it' and 'Odds are, she won't' don't really fit with the tragic seriousness of this young woman's near-miss in losing her hand. It's likely she will be severely scarred and will not have full function afterwards either. The fact that they were having sex during the accident does not make it funny, sorry guys, it doesn't.

The woman didn't die and you (likely) don't know her personally. I think the story is rather light in regards to this technically being a worldwide news outlet; and I think the author's prose reflected that quite accurately. Personally, I think it is kind of funny that the accident happened during sex. I'm glad the author had fun with it. Why does news -- especially written news -- have to be monotonous, in order for it to be appropriate?

Great report; concise and fun to read. :)
