Amy Winehouse Mourned on St. Lucia

The late songstress Amy Winehouse might have hailed from London, but it seems she had a special connection with the Carribean island of St. Lucia.

The Grammy winning singer spent a great amount of time there, earning the affections of locals who are now mourning her loss, according to Breaking Travel News.

"We have lost a good friend and the world has lost a great talent," said tourism and civil aviation senator Allen Chastanet on behalf of St. Lucians. "We were fortunate to see another side of Amy, and will be forever grateful for the acts of kindness and compassion she extended to less fortunate Saint Lucians during her visits with us.

The "Valerie" and "Back to Black" singer, perhaps best known for her song "Rehab," was found dead in her London home Saturday. The cause of death is still unknown.

Winehouse is not the only Brit to whom the Caribbean has paid homage. A beach in Antigua and Barbuda once frequented by Princess Diana was renamed in her honor.

Utter foolishness!! There are many more things happening in St. Lucia that the Minister needs to mourn. I can assure you that the average St. Lucian has no time to mourn Amy Winehouse. Right now we are more concerned about the fact that another hurricane season is upon us and the government has done almost nothing to seriously address the damage done by the last one! We are already having flooding, which the minister would know if he left off from mourning Amy Winehouse and came to see what was going on in his own country.

There are so many other things happening in the world, but I can't help feeling bad for Amy and her family. Addiction is a horrible albatross. It is easy to judge someone based on your own biases, but at least be honest about it. My instincts tell me that there is more to her death than just addiction. I never paid much attention to her music while she was alive, but have been listening to her on Youtube. Her voice was amazing, and she was a great song writer. The song "Valerie" is fantastic.Have some humanity for her family.

My feeling on the subject is if you have never had an addiction you should consider yourself lucky and not bad mouth those who struggle with their demons in that way. Do you smoke or over eat, think about it, most people have some type of addictive behaviour they struggle with.

" We have lost a good friend"?????????? Don't you mean you have lost a GREAT CUSTOMER????? Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against her, but C'MON, she did more drugs than Sheen.
