A U.S. soldier was caught attempting to board a flight to Los Angeles on Wednesday with high-velocity explosives in his bag.

Army Private First Class Christopher Eric Wey, 19, was arrested after he tried to board a United flight, the U.S. Attorney's office for Arizona told Reuters.

Reuters reports that TSA officials at the Yuma International Airport detected a half-ounce of C4 explosives hidden in a tobacco can inside one of Wey's bags. In a conflicting report, the Associated Press reports that it was a quarter-ounce.

Wey was detained and interviewed by FBI agents, who in turn discovered that Wey had stolen the C4 while attending an explosive training course.

Authorities found no indication that Wey intended any harm but him with trying to carry an explosive onto an aircraft and a stolen one at that, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine.

Wouldnt it be great if people did things to show they cared for one another? CONSISTENTLY? This violent thing has been going on for years.. and centuries... its boring and predictible already. Its never interesting, and nothing good comes out of it. It baffles me to see so many people do the lowest, dispicable things to one another and expect different outcomes.

I wonder what that idiot planned to do with the C-4 when he got home? I served in the U.S.M.C. from 1960 thru 1964 and never dreamed of taking any souveniers home. In fact, I counted the days until my reserve period was up so I could take my uniforms to a United Way clothing drop box to donate and get them out of my house..

he likely went to EOD school; this is one of the hardest schools to get thru in the military. So if he did graduate from EOD training, he is not stupid but made the biggest mistake of his life in taking this C4. if he had so desired he could have rigged something with cell phone in the bathroom and blown a hole in the side of the plane. I would consider his mental status or his intent to destroy vs being just plain stupid.
