Take the Epicurean Excursion in Portland to enjoy some of the best artisanal items that come straight from the heart of Oregon. Snack on handmade Dungeness crab cakes, pressed Cubano sandwiches and wash it down with a glass of Pinor Noir (or Pinot Gris) from the Willamette Valley.
Munch on maduros and empanadas while learning about classic Cuban cuisine on the Little Havana Food and Culture Walking Tour in Miami, where hole-in-the-wall flavor is favored over the glitz of the Miami food scene. And while in the Big Apple, take an off-the-beaten-track food trek on the New York Street Food Walking Tour to savor the unique flavor of the city streets. From bulgogi to souvlaki, this tour highlights the city's street fare that goes far beyond hot dogs and pretzels.
From shrimp remoulade in New Orleans' French Quarter to lamb ribs outside of Austin, we're dishing up 10 delicious foodie walking tours sure to get your stomach grumbling. After all, what better way to get to know a city than to eat your way through it?
Near North Food Tour: Chicago, Ill.
Sure, Chicago is known for its deep-dish style pizza, but smart travelers steer clear of conventional eats in the Windy City and get to know the eateries popular with locals on the Near North Food Tour instead.
Focused on breaking away from on-the-beaten-track downtown restaurants, the tour explores the Gold Coast, Old Town, and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. Taste authentic Polish and European pastries at Delightful Pastries, sample delicatessen delicacies at the Ashkenaz Deli, and stop at Chicago’s oldest chocolate confectioner and fudge shop, The Fudge Pot.
In addition to the tastings, walking through these notable neighborhoods will teach visitors a thing or two about Chicago’s rich foodie town history.
