The rankings, released Tuesday, were based on a survey of nearly 15,000 readers. In the survey, readers reported their experiences on 29,720 domestic, round-trip flights over a year.
Respondents rated each leg of their trips on the following criteria: Check-in ease, cabin crew service, cabin cleanliness, baggage handling, seating comfort, and in-flight entertainment. Among the results:
-- Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airways ranked first and second in customer satisfaction.
-- Southwest ranked best in check-in ease and cabin-crew service, but earned low marks for in-flight entertainment. Only JetBlue got a positive in-flight entertainment grade.
-- JetBlue was also the only airline to receive positive marks in each of the above categories.
-- 93 percent of Southwest passengers were charged no fees at check-in. More than half of American, Delta, JetBlue and Continental passengers also paid no fees. Comparatively, more than 40 percent of US Airways, Alaska, Frontier and AirTran passengers paid one fee.
-- US Airways, United Airlines, Delta Airlines and American Airlines all received mediocre to negative grades in each of the above categories.

When we travel we often think of how great it's gonna be when arriving at our final destination, and we are much less enthusiastic about spending time in aiports and airlines, because air travel has become more a stressful and unpleasant experience. That's why our website http://www.AirLikes.com/ is trying to collect air travel experiences and advice of any kind to help travelers avoid an air travel nightmare.

I have been flying for over 40 years now and service has been on a downhill slide for a long time, getting worse each year. Recently flew on United and it was a very bad experience, in-flight entertainment did not make it any better. Touting cheaper fares while charging you for every bag and amenity only strengthens an already negative image of the airline industry. When I have a choice I fly Southwest. Reasonable fares and good service are what's important.

They were rude and would not help with anything. We missed several flights because they were late and what should have been a 4 hour flight ended up being 12 hours. I now have this slogan "Doesn't Even Leave The Airport". I recently flew with Continental and they were not much better. I have flown with them before and had a good experience but this last time was my moms first time to fly and of course it was a nightmare. Must be something about first flights, :o) As far as I am concerned Southwest Rules!

May 10 2011 at 8:58 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyI have been a fan of Southwest for years. They just seem to do it right. As far as in-flight entertainment goes, there is none, so bring a laptop, ipod, or other device to entertain yourself.

May 11 2011 at 12:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust took a trip on Amerian Airlines and I must say all four of the planes had the most unconfortable seats I've ever had. There has to come a time when the airlines will consider the comfort of the customer along with $$$$. When I do fly Southwest has always been by far my favorite. More comfortable seats, much friendlier employees, along with better fares and 0 $ for baggage. Hopefully they get large enough to put the hurt on AA, Northwest, Delta, etc. Southwest is proof that the customer can come first and still be profitable.
May 10 2011 at 8:45 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyI would never fly SW, I arrived at the airport 3 hrs before my flight because I was in a wheelchair and needed a front row for the legroom because I have bad knees. They waited til the flight was about to board to make a fool out of me in front of everyone telling me I needed to purchase a second seat because of my size, we had flown SW to Vegas and was on our return trip home when this happened, I was seated next to my husband so who cared, it was not an issue on the flight to Vegas. The gate agent was rude and very loud explaining I needed another 180.00 for the seat next to me because I would overlap into that seat. I told her I didn't on the way out there, nothing mattered, So we paid and guess what , now they tell us the flight is overbooked after we paid the money. We got on the flight and they had to move people out of a front row seat for us and asked for a volunteer to be bumped offering them a free ticket. I took pictures of us sitting on the plane. I called the company when I returned home. They said that should never have happened as I did NOT overlap into the next seat as seen in the pictures. They refunded my money right away but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I fly Delta if I have to fly anywhere and have never had any problems.
May 10 2011 at 8:35 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyI don't understand why people don't like American Airlines.
Every flight I have taken with them has been a positive experience. Pilots have greeted me when I boarded and when I deplaned. Delayed flights have been explained and the pilots gave the passengers updates every few minutes. The flight attendants have been kind and courteous. The gate agents have been patient with questions and tactful when I was running to catch a connection (my own fault--always leave enough time for a connecting flight).
I would recommend them to anyone, anytime.
I HOPE SOUTHWEST STAYS GREAT. I FLY THIS AIRLINE........ GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US THAT DO.
