New York Senator Chuck Schumer has called for a "no-ride" list for Amtrak trains for fear of terrorist attacks on the nation's train system.

The Democrat called for a list akin to those of airlines' at a press conference Sunday following the release of intelligence learned from the raid on Osama bin Laden's Pakistan compound, Reuters reports.

The current "no-fly" lists cross-checks air travelers with international watch lists, as mandated by the September 11th Commission in 2004.

Schumer also said that he would push for additional funding for railway security, commuter and passenger train inspections and heavier monitoring at train stations around the nation.

"Circumstances demand we make adjustments by increasing funding to enhance rail safety and monitoring on commuter rail transit and screening who gets on Amtrak passenger trains, so that we can provide a greater level of security to the public," Schumer said.

Evidence was found inside bin Laden's compound that indicated al Qaeda was discussing attack options on a train inside the U.S. on the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Schumer also said at the press conference that additional attacks were considered on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and following Obama's State of the Union address.

In other Amtrak news, 15 states and Amtrak were awarded the $2 billion that Florida turned down for high-speed rail travel in March.

Nearly $800 million will go to increasing train speeds in heavily-trafficked areas, such as Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, the Associated Press reports. An additional $404 million will expand high-speed rail service in the Midwest; roughly $340 million will be allocated to better service in California, with hopes of creating high-speed service between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Schumer is an idiot. If there actually is a threat to rail roads, it would be along the tracks, not from one of those jackass things boarding a train. Oh, and the huffington post is even dummer than Schumer.

We used to be a free country. Now we are Nazi Germany. We already have to pay to have an ID card.
(Well, the government is afraid to issue national ID cards. We'd have to pay for those too I bet.) As far as evidence of more attacks found in bin Laden's hide-out, can we believe anything our government tells us. Mr Obama is as bad as the rest of the thugs we have had stealing our country.

Though I agree that Schumer's plan is idiotic, I would suggest that reconsider your word choice. The United States has a long (and I mean a very long) way to go before it becomes like Nazi Germany. How dare you claim that the United States, the country that liberated my family and millions of other families, is in any way similar to the nation that subjugated and killed millions of my fellow men. Your contention is fallacious and disgusting.

You've got to be kidding me! Why don't we just put EVERYBODY in jail....and only let out the people who can prove they are worthy? I'm not an expert, but if I were trying to cause a trainwreck, I wouldn't do it on a train I was riding on. I'd mess up the tracks where there are no witnesses and cause a derail. But what the hell, let's spend a few more bilion $$$ for TSA workers to feel around in Grandma's bras on trains.

Way to go Chuckie. Let's put another $800 Million that does'nt exist into another bottomless pit and then set up a "good touch bad touch " barricade. See if anyone wants to ride the train then! Oh that's right, as long as you can then more easily travel back and forth from the big city on the public's back, all's well.

Bin Laden is gone, but it turns out that he wasn't the one in charge. He was just the financer for Al-Qaida, as well as the trainer. Now we have to pay attention to who we thought was the number two guy (I don't remember his name) and the Taliban.
God, who would have ever thought that we'd be yearning for the days of the PLO and the IRA as the main terrorist threats in the world?

Well boys and girls, when I see stupidity like this Senator is pushing I think of two things: In the old movies (and television shows) that had the theme of World War II you always saw the Nazi's standing around in the train stations, usually flanked with some little pip squeak wearing a full length leather coat, a hat, and large black horned rim glasses, confronting people with the line, "Papers, papers please", as they walked around looking for the hero of the story; and how soon will the road blocks be set up?? What an idiot!!! All this clown is doing is trying to look busy while he does what politicians do best -- get amazing salaries with unbelievable perks, and screw the public that elected them. Oh, and lest we forget, the MEDIA MORONS are on the scent, also looking like they're busy as they fabricate stories in an attempt to engage (or is it "enrage"??) the public and cause basic unrest and eventual panic.
I'm reminded of another thing, which is a line from a Bob Dylan song that goes: "And you know something is happening but you don't know what it is, do you Mr. Jones"!!!
