Palmyra Hotel, Baalbek, Lebanon
Almost an icon in its own right, the Palmyra Hotel in Lebanon stands opposite the ruins of Baalbek –one of the most important ancient cities of the Mediterranean, which boasted the largest temple in the Roman Empire. Options are limited for those who want to stay within easy reach of the ancient site, but the Palmyra is certainly an excellent option geographically. A five star establishment in its 1930s heyday, visiting the Palmyra is like stepping back in time. The walls of this hotel are even lined with photos of the great guests that once graced its rooms with their presence. While it may lack some creature comforts, this hotel is truly unique, both for its own intriguing history, and for that which sits on its doorstep.

I was so excited when I saw this article because I just got married at the Hacienda Chichen Resort over New Years & it was nothing short of magical. We were able to make it a weekend event with friends & family joining us from various different parts of the States. I was able to have a special spa treatment at Yaxkin Spa as part of the wedding package & it was such a stress reliever the day of (let me tell you that trying to help coordinate flight itineraries for guests flying in from over 8 cities during all of those 2010 blizzards in the Northeast definitely was stressful!)
The morning after the ceremony, we were all able to walk to the ruins & take a two hour guided tour before the HUGE crowds that arrive midday on buses from the Riviera took over Chichen Itza. Plus we were able to be in the hotel's pool during the hottest part of the day! My husband & I even took an amazing birdwatching tour as one of our wedding presents!
The staff was amazing, the location was not to be believed, and they made our wedding all the more memorable to my husband & me. We loved it so much, we are already planning on returning in the (hopefully) near future!
Unbelievable pictures. Just loved them truly.
