Princess Diana Gets Barbuda Beach Named For Her

The date would have been her 50th birthday. However, she died in 1997 in Paris car crash at age 36.
"Barbuda became a sanctuary for the princess, and she seemed to find solace in the beauty of the island," Dorcas Beazer-Williams, tourism chairwoman for the Barbuda Council, told the Associated Press. She hopes the new beach will serve as a constant reminder of the Princess' legacy.
It's not the first time a place has been named for royalty, but Diana is once again in the spotlight because of her son's nuptials.
"From a tourism standpoint it puts a spotlight on Barbuda with all the hype with the royal wedding," Colin James, chief executive officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, told the AP.
Perhaps the newlyweds might consider a honeymoon to the beach, which Diana frequented with her boys when they were young?

It's great that Antigua and Barbuda are naming a beach after the late Princess Diana. Antigua and Barbuda's timing could not have been any better. Well done Antigua and Barbuda.

I was born and raised in the UK and will be up to Watch the big event. I am sure at some point Will and Kate will visit the Princess Diana Bch, maybe with children of there own.
Congratulations to Prince William and Katherne. Diana would be very proud of her sons today.

April 28 2011 at 3:37 PM Report abuse Permalink +7 rate up rate down ReplyLets get off of diana now. If we do not let her RIP, then Katy will forever be walking in Diana,s shadow and that is not fair. Katy is the princess now, so lets set our sights on her now. I am sure Katy would rather not hear about Diana for the days of her life or have people compare her to Diana. They are two different people and Diana has had her 15 min of fame. Katy,s turn. I myself would have preferred my own wedding ring.
