Hotel minibar contents can range from the dull, meaning empty, to the outrageous – think bikinis and teddy bears – but the Peabody Orlando hotel has launched a new program that asks the guest what they want in advance.

The fancy hotel recently launched a program it calls "Feed the Fridge" program, where guests can pre-order customized packages, or design their own, and the fridge will be stocked and waiting for them in their room upon arrival.

So if a guest is not planning to leave the room for the evening, perhaps the "Night at the Movies" is just the ticket. It comes with beer, water or wine, plus popcorn and a chocolate bar.

For someone who needs a pick-me-up, the "Energizer" ($15) offers up three energy drinks for a kick start to the day. Those looking for a little diversion might like "The Card Shark" ($18), which comes with a deck of cards, plus a six-pack of beer. Opponent not included.

But the Peabody isn't the only hotel trying to figure out how to make minibars make sense. The Washington Post reports that though 83% of the highest-end luxury hotels have them, may lower-priced hotels opt out altogether.

Recently some hotels have started to offer choices at check-in, such as at the Grace Hotel in New York, which will then send your order up to the room, while others just leave you to your own devices to stock the fridge from off-property or from room service.

"At the end of the day, what we decided was we're going to give them refrigerators and give people what they want, when they want it, if they want it," said Peter Kacheris, director of the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek.

Both the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and the Swan and Dolphin in Orlando have programs in place to let guests order items for their mini-fridge at check-in or through room service.

I think it was a great idea for them to include these mini bars in every Orlando hotel room or suite. Guests get hungry and when they open up the fridge to see a bunch of treats they are surely to purchase sooner or later. I wonder how much profit these hotels have brought in from this simple add on.

The reason minibar prices are so high is the same reason that movie theater snacks are similarly expensive: the companies make their income that way.

Why would anyone pay those exhorbitant prices for snacks or drinks. You'd have to be an idiot!! Prices for rooms is bad enough without adding to it.

What the hell does Corp America have to do with it? I own a Corp and make less than average income. So what do you mean Corporate America? Most corporations are not huge and do not make tons of money, oh, that is it, a company that makes money and does not give it away to the lazy is evil? Do the Hotels rip people off, yes, but if you do not like it do not buy it. Your one of those Socialist types that think that recieving 100k in insurance beni's over 20 years while only paying in 48k is a rip off. Think of this, average person will NEVER pay into insurance as much as they get out. Why do you think so many Insurance companies are getting out of the health business? Why dont you move to a country that is Already Socialist, and stop cutting down the Best country in the world.

I wonder how it would work when I say "I want a Coke that don't cost no $4 damn dollars."

I totally agree. The prices are so outrageous I don't even look at the minibar. I carry a 6 pack of diet coke with me and stop usually at a CVS or Wal-Greens before I get to where I am going or even throw some snacks in my suitcase.
The $4 Coke and the $3.75 for M&M's is crazy.
