Families of Flight 93 Victims Seek Funding for 9/11 Memorial

Families of those lost in the United Flight 93 crash on September 11 are asking Congress for federal money to fund a memorial, the Associated Press reports.

Family members of the victims will address Congress Wednesday, asking it to approve the $3.7 million President Obama allocated to the project in his budget. The project is expected to cost $60 million.

So far, approximately $18.5 million has been raised. $10 million has already come from Congress, with $18.5 million from Pennsylvania and $20 million from private donors.

Flight 93 was traveling from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco on September 11, 2001 when hijackers tried to overtake the plane. Passengers fought back, crashing the plane into a field near Shanksville, Penn.
