AOL Travel Spring Break Survey Results

With Spring Break just around the corner, Americans are opening up their pocketbooks and investing in travel. According to an AOL survey, 72% of respondents said they have more (31%) or the same amount (41%) of money to spend on spring break this year compared to last.







The survey also found:
· Over 60% of travelers are spending between $500 and $2,000 on their spring break.
· 61% of women are planning to spend less than $1,000, while only 42% of men are.
· With less than two months until Spring Break, 75% of travelers had yet to book their flights, though 57% had at least identified their destination.
· 75% of travelers are staying within the US, and Florida is the top traveled-to state.
· 80% of those surveyed will travel more than 250 miles and 58% will travel more than 500 miles.

Midwest
With almost two-thirds of Midwesterners traveling more than 500 miles from home, it seems people in this region really take off for their Spring Breaks. Of those from the Midwest, 75% will stay in the United States and travel to top destinations like Florida, California and Nevada. They'll also average longer vacations than those in the rest of the country, spending 5.9 days at their destinations.

Northeast
Northeasterners are also in it for the long haul, with 60% of travelers from the region planning trips of more than 500 miles. Again, Florida is the destination of choice as 42% of Northeastern travelers are planning trips to the Sunshine State. Northeastern travelers also seem to have the biggest budget of all regions. Almost half will spend between $1,000 and $5,000.

South
Southern travelers are the most likely to stay close to home. Only 54% plan on traveling more than 500 miles, while 37% will venture between 100 and 500 miles. Though southerners are the most likely to stay within the U.S., with 77% traveling domestically, they're also most likely to travel to the Caribbean. Other popular destinations include Florida, North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. Finally, the majority of southern travelers (60%) will spend less than $1,000 on their vacations, and their trips will be the shortest of all regions.

West
Westerners also tend to stay close to home for Spring Break. 26% will travel between 50 and 250 miles-the highest of all regions. California and Nevada are top destinations in the region, with Hawaii and Mexico being popular among those planning to travel farther. As for budget, over half plan to spend between $500 and $2,000, though one-fifth (19%) plan to spend less than $500.
