Buttocks Injection Causes Death Inside Philadelphia Hotel

Police are investigating the death of a young UK woman after she received an illegal buttocks injection procedure inside a Philadelphia hotel.

Claudia Adusei, 20, had come to the US with three friends to have the buttocks injection procedure performed at the Hampton Inn near the Philadelphia International Airport, reports the Associated Press.

Two of the women had visited last November to have buttocks enlargements, and the party returned with Adusei while another woman had a hip augmentation. Police believe all of the procedures were arranged over the Internet.

Detective Joseph Murray tells AP after having the buttocks injection on Monday, Adusei complained of chest pains and was later taken to a hospital and died early Tuesday.

"We're not quite sure right now if that person performing that procedure is licensed or unlicensed," Lieutenant John Walker tells the London Evening Standard.

The female "doctor" who performed the procedure seems to have disappeared once the victim began feeling ill.

The medical examiner for Delaware County says a preliminary cause of death was recorded as a heart attack, caused by silicone being injected into the woman's vascular system.

Police are seeking two people involved in the cosmetic procedures. Liquid silicone is not approved in the US for cosmetic injections.

In March 2009, a woman died in New York City of a pulmonary embolism after silicone injected into her buttocks and thighs entered her lungs.
