World's Largest Gay Cruise Sets Sail on Sunday

Royal Caribbean's 5,400-passenger Allure of the Seas, the world's newest, largest cruise ship, sets sail this weekend on the world's largest gay and lesbian cruise.

The two-month-old ship was chartered by Atlantis Events, which specializes in the gay and lesbian market. The sold-out weeklong sailing leaves from Ft. Lauderdale and will visit Nassau, Bahamas; St. Maarten; and St. Thomas.

"Our guest response to this first Allure of the Seas sailing was incredible, with the charter selling out in three weeks with no advertising whatsoever," says Atlantis' CEO Rich Campbell in a statement.

The 225,282-ton Allure of the Seas is so big it has "neighborhoods," such as a Boardwalk with a real carousel; an open-air Central Park with thousands of real plants and trees; a Royal Promenade as wide as a road; and an elaborate Pool and Sports Zone with four pools and activities including a zip line. There's even the first Starbuck's to be on a cruise ship.

The ship also has the first shipboard production of "Chicago: The Musical." DreamWorks Animation characters, which are typically on the ship, will not be featured on the gay and lesbian sailing, according to an Atlantis spokeswoman.

Atlantis says it will be bringing an original lineup of gay and lesbian talent, including comedians, singers, cabaret stars and performance artists for its guests, as well as top DJs who will spin at theme parties.

If you missed the boat this time, there's always next year. The company has chartered the Allure of the Seas on the same itinerary in 2012. Reservations open on Feb. 23. The cruise will sail from Ft. Lauderdale on January 29, 2012.

Oh Bev honey you are a total moron.
Check out the photos of all the cute men on the Atlantis Events website and maybe you can figure out why gay people would rather be with gay people on an all gay cruise. Rather than on say a cheesy Carnival cruise for straight overweight people more excited about the buffet than anything else. No thanks to a boat full of the close minded Bevs of the World, no thanks to the family crowd or the goon squad "christian" crowd. We 're here Bev - we 're going to vacation the way WE want to and not how people like you think we should.

I feel much the same about Black History month, or black studies in schoo;s, or womens studdies in schools offered as credit classes. If I asked for white history month, or white studies in schools can you imagine the firestorm, how about the United Caucasian Colleeg Fund? Being different or minority does not imply inequality or inferiority. Common sense needs to be used at some pont.

I am always offended by ANY public display of affection-regardless of the sexual oeientation of the individuals involved. Whay do so many gay people make it their mission to advertise their sexual preference? I can walk down the street or go to a bar without yelling from the roof tops "hey, look at me, Im straight and I'm proud" Dressing provactively isnt attractive to anyone - I do have friends who have a long term relationship , are members of the community (yes, we are all aware of their relationship) they belong to the same church and civic groups as many of us. They have a civil union and don't wan't to use the term maried because they feel marriage, or the word marriage, applies to a man and woman. Sometimes it just is what it is and I don't need some outre individual acting foolishly in the name of sexual equality. Do what you want, with whomever you like, but please stop with all the in your face stuff!

I think the gay population should buy a huge island and form a nation. When making the laws, make sure that being straight is allowed, but frowned upon in legal ways. Tolerate straights, but remind them every day they don't have the same rights. Organize a religion that tells the straight people every day that they are an abomination. And, remember NO STRAIGHT MARRIAGE... or STRAIGHT CIVIL UNIONS... after all it is a choie they make.

I think gay people should buy a huge island and form a country of their own. They should outlaw being straight, but be tolerant enough to allow them to live. A religion should be created to tell them every day of their lives that they are against the norm of the country and of course.... NO STRAIGHT MARRIAGE, after all.... it is a choice to be straight.

Maybe one of your loved ones will be on the ship, & you didnt know he/she were gay. However, I hope not!Try to appreciate the fact that it is about love, & not war & killing, like most men do!!!!

I guess I must be homophobic because I am sick and tired of gay this and gay that plastered everywhere for less than 10% of the population.

No agenda

I must have missed the part where this was a gay PR announcement or had anything to do with gay relationships. But if you're so homophobic why are you reading this article?
