A United Express plane with a suspected open passenger door made an emergency landing at the Burlington International Airport in Vermont, shortly after takeoff yesterday. The flight had been headed to Washington-Dulles.

The Airport Operations office in Burlington says a light in the plane's cockpit indicated a door was open and that the pilot was having problems steering.

Firefighters, police and ambulance crews met the plane.

The flight, operated for United by Atlantic Southeast Airlines, had 43 passengers and crew onboard. No injuries were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.

All commercial aircraft have what is known as CWLP (Central warning light panel)If a pilot presses a switch he can check all warning lights are functioning . Just before take off the pilot checks all warning lights off . The warning lights are so accurate even the smallest indication of a malfunction will illuminate a light. The only way a door warning light could come on after take off must indicate the door was not fully closed .
Sorry pilot error .
