In a move sure to arouse debate, Marriott International has announced the company will be cutting adult movies from its in-room entertainment systems.

The hotel chain will take adult content off its menu in all newly built hotels, and plans to completely phase out pay-per-view porn by 2013.

With the exception of Omni, most big name hotel chains offer adult movies as an option for guests. An anonymous veteran hotel manager tells USA Today that research suggest 80-90% of all movies watched in the company's hotel rooms are of "adult content."

However, business travelers -- typically thought to be the main purchasers of in-room porn -- now have access to adult entertainment through means such as Netflix DVDs and Internet access on laptops.

In a statement, Marriott tells the news outlet: "Changing technology and how guests access entertainment has reduced the revenue hotels and their owners derive from in-room movies, including adult content."

Marriott also says the move is an effort to "keep adult content out of the reach of children and unavailable to any adult who chooses not to view it."

A Wall Street analyst says the move may come as quite a blow to LodgeNet, the company that provides the video-on-demand service. Along with Hilton, Marriott is one of LodgeNet's top customers. However, LodgeNet maintains the company -- which also provides Hollywood blockbusters, games and music to hotel guests -- will not be affected as much as the report suggested.

So it has to be one way or another? I'm sure porn does wreck lives for some...most, probably not. Driving a car, one can have an accident and wreck lives. Same with guns. Alcohol? Porn is used for a lot of reasons, some obvious, some subtle. So what, outlaw everything that MIGHT hurt someone? It's always the abuse of something that leads to problems. Relax people.

Why would you pay for porn in a room when you can watch in on your laptop? It is silly for Marriott to make it out to be a family issue when it is purely financial. They don't make any money on the lodgenet contracts that require movies. Now they can force lodgnet to offer their hotels contracts without the adult movies. Currently the hotel can not get the service without the porn movies.

Marriott says to "keep adult content out of the reach of children. BS its up to the parents to control of what their mistakes watch.
Only reason Marriott id dropping porn is not making enough $$$ off it.
