Mexicana Airline Set To Return to the Skies

Mexicana Airlines will take to the skies again. The airline has confirmed it plans to begin selling tickets on January 24 as the carrier works toward a re-launch.
International Living reports the airline will start by flying six planes that will cover eight routes: Cancún, Chicago, Guadalajara, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Antonio, Texas.
The airline hopes to gradually ramp up service, with a goal of sending 28 planes skyward by April.
Under the pressure of mounting debts, the airline filed for bankruptcy in August 2010.
Mexicana had hoped to be back in the skies by December 2010, but a number of potential investors backed out. In early December, Mexicana found a knight in shining armor with the investor group PC Capital, who reached an agreement with the airline's unions, allowing Mexicana to wing its way back into business.
Following the re-launch, the airline will be substantially smaller. Mexicana will employ only about a quarter of the 8,000 people who had jobs with the airline at the start of 2010.
The airline's 350 pilots--as well as mechanics, cabin crew and ground staff--will start training immediately to revalidate their credentials.
Mexican tourism officials say the shutdown of the Mexicana drastically reduced airline coverage at some destinations, resulting in as much as $420 million in lost revenue.

I am still waiting for a refund for 2 one way tickets that cancelled due to the bankrupcty. I followed their initial instructions and have not heard a word and was stranded in Mexico and had to pay $1200.00 for 2 one way tickets to get home to Chicago on Saturday August 28, 2010. Is anyone else having this same issue?
April 11 2011 at 10:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThey still havent refund my ticket...they lied to me when I tried to cancel saying my flight was not effected and there was no need to cancel. They refused to cancel my ticket because they said it was not effected and they lied. Whats more...I only use my American Express for travel and this was the first ticket I had bought in over a year. Shortly before the airline went bankrupt someone used my passport and American Express to steal my identity...luckily American Express caught it...the charges were from Mexico...nice real nice...steal my $500 from not refunding my ticket and then try and steal my identity...

You both don't have brains.
Out of service for such a long time?? You're kidding, or did you read the article. It was only since August 2010.
January 15 2011 at 2:15 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySome awful posts on here against Mexicans. Mexicana was a great airline...flew it many times while living in Mexico. Are your nasty comments about the airline or Mexico and Mexicans? I thought this was about the return to service of the Airline! I also flew on Aeromexico, the other Mexican Airline, and when I read that Mexicana was closing, I could not believe it. Mexicana was so much more superior to Aeromexico, in all areas. Hopefully it will return to its previous status.
January 15 2011 at 2:10 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGlad to hear this. Maybe they could take some illegal mexicans back on the returning flights.
January 15 2011 at 2:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't believe you people. How you discriminate other races! You comments are not welcome. Instead of worrying about ilegal Mexicans. You better watch out, soon you bunch of white people are going to be the slaves of Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese.
Foreigners are getting a better education than US Citizens, lol.
What do you know about Mexicana Airlines you probably don't have any experience traveling. Your trips are road trips,,,,hahhahha, that is how much you can afford.
Best experience flying firsts class with them! Go back to school get a degree and maybe one day you can afford to travel in a flying experecience with them.
Mexicana was (is) a great airline.. they were friendly.. and the service very nice.. good meals in both First Class and Coach, and Free drink's for all.. no penny pinching like the US airlines are now.. you pay for everything and not so much as a bag of nut's I've been with the airline's for over 30 year's now and I've seen them go from first rate and service to being a flying Bus Service.. very sad... I wish them all the best and hope they come back full force.. if you've never flown on Mexican you should and see how a great airline works..

Hey, their cheaper than any other airline out there. The down side is you have to fly with goats, chickens and donkeys!!!
January 15 2011 at 10:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMake sure the FAA watches over their maintenance. They do a terrible job watching our domestic airlines, especially freight carriers. I know, because I have flown for some of them, and the maintenance was erratic and sparse. There is a thing called "pencil whipping" inspections. They also use expired parts, and they don't pay their mechanics and pilots diddley squat. Also, favoritism and personal resentment undermines employee ambition.
