Arianna Huffington, author and columnist who runs the popular online site the Huffington Post, was met by Port Authority Police officials at New York's La Guardia after ignoring crew orders to turn off her Blackberry on a United Express flight from Washington's Dulles.

After Huffington's defiance, another passenger confronted her, leading to both of them being questioned by police after the flight landed. Both were released without being charged, reports the New York Post.

The other passenger was identified as Ellis Belodoff, 53, of Plainview, N.Y. Belodoff got up from his seat in protest of her continued chatting and texting, sources tell the Post, and ignored warnings to stay in his seat as he leaped up to complain.

"Hey, lady! Don't you speak English?" the man allegedly heckled Huffington.

Jen Friedberg, spokeswoman for the Port Authority Police, tells FoxNews.com, "She was asked to turn her phone off by flight attendants and she did. The guy felt she didn't turn off her phone in timely manner."

Friedberg says when the on-board altercation continued, the flight crew contacted Port Authority Police in New York and they sent officers to meet the plane.

"The crew did alert our police when it looked like there was a fight brewing, but by the time they landed our police just spoke to them," she says. "She didn't get escorted off the plane by police. She was in the first row, she would've gotten off the plane first."

As for repercussions, "They both had a talking-to," says Friedberg.

Mario Ruiz, Huffington's spokesman, says "There was a passenger who seemed upset. Arianna thought he didn't like the snacks. Guess not. Maybe he was an iPhone fan. As you know, the battle between iPhone lovers and BlackBerry users can get pretty heated."

In another recent case of a famous person using their Blackberry when told not to, actor Josh Duhamel was escorted off a US Airways Express plane in December for texting.

she used to be conservative. I'm sure all these ppl do this. Stop jumping on one person b/c it just happens to be reported. AOL and fox will make sure everything gets in the news to stir up trouble. And for the ppl that don't know who she is. well, i think everyone needs to pay attention more.

Several years ago I sat across the isle from Ms. Huffington on a flight from New York. (I was using miles to upgrade my seat and was seated in the first row. Since we boarded earlier then the other passengers I had a lot of time to experience Ms. Huffington's actions. First, she was talking (very loudly I might add to someone that worked for her. She was insrtucting this "employee" to fire another employee. She went into details (of which I will spare you) about this soon to be ex-employee. During her loud and rude comentary she was twirlling her hair in her fingers and then put her foot up on the bulkhead. My travel partner had to block me from reaching over and wanting to choke Ms. Huffington. SHe was RUDE to everyone around her.

So many busy bodies, so few educated to know which battles to fight. Mr. Ellis Belodoff, the new self-appointed provincial policeman of United, is a moron. He needs to get a life! This reminds me of Linda Tripp, who played dirty pool by secretly tape recording Monica Lewinsky. Where do they get these people anyhow? The Grinch who stole Xmas must have a secret little town of followers someplace..................thank God, not on my planet!

If Linda Tripp hadn't played "dirty pool" one of our dirtiest prez's would've gotten away w. lying his arse off to all of America re. one of his many instances of serial adultery. which would prob. be fine w. you. and Arianna is the moron: elitist, leftist, "feminist" In other words, Obama in a skirt.

Just plain igorant of the rules I suppose. The old saw is, Igorance of the law is no excuse. The FAA and FCC err on the side of caution. Nothing wrong with that. I would rather see that than have the aircraft electronics messed up by some bobblehead.
