Runaway Dog Causes Airport Closure in Brazil

One of Brazil's largest airports was shut down after a tiny dog escaped from her owner's arms and ran towards a runway.
Controllers at Congonhas airport in Sao Paulo say they stopped operations out of concern that the miniature pinscher would get sucked into a plane's engines or collide with an aircraft on the runway.
The 12-inch-tall dog arrived at the airport on a cargo flight and took off when her owner was trying to put her in a car.
A search was organized involving firefighters and other airport personnel.
Meanwhile, flights to and from the domestic airport were suspended for 24 minutes. The dog was not found.
Four flights experienced delays and one flight was diverted to an airport in Viracopos, about 60 miles away.

I've always owned larger breeds of dogs; my Toby is an American Bulldog who weighs 95 lbs and he's still a puppy. You can't get away with holding dogs like him in your lap, LOL

December 13 2010 at 4:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replythey need to take the owner out behind the shed and beat the tar out of him for not having the dog in a crate/ on a leash. What an irresponsible owner. In addition, maybe they should charge him for the costs of diverting all those planes and the fuel burned up.
December 13 2010 at 4:43 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt says the dog was never found, which probably means, before the airport was even aware and everyone started to try and find it, it most likely got sucked into a planes engine and is now dog meat. LOL hahahahaha
