AAA
Namibian police have intercepted a suspected bomb with a ticking clock in luggage on an Air Berlin plane that was to fly from the southern Africa country to Munich, Germany.

Germany's Federal Crime Office (BKA) is investigating the suspicious object, which appeared to be a detonator with a clock.

It was not clear if the object, which was found while luggage was being loaded on the flight In Windhoek, Namibia, was an ignitable explosive.

"A subsequent X-ray (of the luggage) revealed batteries that were attached with wires to a detonator and a ticking clock," the German authorities said in a statement. "Only the ongoing forensic investigation will show whether this was a live explosive."

The discovery came after Germany stepped up airport and railway security measures, after receiving intelligence pointing to a planned attack towards the end of the month.

German officials have said information came to light after the foiled attempt to send parcel bombs from Yemen to U.S. targets and the parcel bombs sent by Greek militants to targets including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

I can't tell if this is sketchy reporting or a haphazard investivgative procedure because there seems to be too many questions going through my mind that i won't try to list here right now.

What... a bomb, on a plane? Gee golly. I guess the full body assaults and people scanners missed this? Oh wait, that's here in America where peoples rights are violated yet bombs still can make it on planes.

They dont even know if it was a bomb yet. Figure out what it is before putting it out on the news.

you are missing the point... if it looks like a bomb, sounds like a bomb, or smells like a bomb, it shouldn't have made it onto the plane

Wind up clock, wires to a detonator but perhaps no explosives. It might be a test to see if it made it thru security...or it might be Natasha and Boris Badinoff sending a bomb to Rocky and Bullwinkle. Thank god Dudley Dooright intervened!

Agreed, and they will test every airport and every airline with dummies to see which has the weak security, and these may well be the smaller and poorer countries with a few large airports, or several feeder lines to other ports. They will follow up quickly with plane killers, but until they feel something will work, they will be sparing in their explosive supplies. Too many discoveries will give too many clues as to sources.

This is too funny! The only comment that makes any sense. I say, "If you wanna fly the not-so-friendly skies, buyer beware."

Cooper....I'm with you. I think the only drawback to banning packages from Yemen would be that the terrorist would just try to send them from somewhere else. These idiots continue to make us even more of a prisoner in our own Country....something I think they snicker at because they have indeed succeeded in doing. We've become exactly what the terrorists want. Our own prisoners. How sad.

I don't mind the body screening as I have already done so. What I am concerned about is the effect that they can have on the body. What say the "experts" about this?

See now THIS is why I refuse to fly, even with all the security checks (and they are embarrassing) this still happens. If I can't drive to where ever then I just don't go.

There is an enormously important question emerging from the recent onboard-weapons scares: Despite all the extended surveillance and monitoring that has added considerable time to the pre-boarding process, it appears that UNEXAMINED cargo is STILL -- regularly -- making its way on to commercial flights!! Begrudingly, perhaps, but most passengers have been willingly extending themselves to comply with all the new regulations and to tolerate the endless procedures because they appreciate the need for upgraded security. Now, I've obviously been naive because I've assumed that what passengers have received in exchange for their cooperation is AT LEAST the careful examination of all loaded cargo. After all, if cargo isn't going to be wholly monitored, what's the point?? To be "pretty sure" there are no onboard explosives??? If there are airlines or airports whose standards are below par, lists should be prominently published, annotated, and updated for travelers. But also, I'd like to read an article expressly on just how "random" all the upgraded security really is.

Why are we (the relatively civilized countries) even allowing incoming flights from these 3d World breeding grounds of terrorism?
