Man Jailed for Giving Dubai Airport Worker 'The Finger'
Paul Anthony, 34, was taken into custody as he stepped off a plane in the U.A.E. He had been planning a six-day stopover in Dubai on his way to an Asian country, The Sun reports. A source tells the newspaper Anthony worked for the U.N.
The charges stem from a previous incident which reportedly began when the employee refused to let Anthony use a customer service phone at Dubai International Airport. An argument erupted and police were called.
At a hearing, a Dubai court heard how Anthony "cursed" the Muslim woman in front of her colleagues. As a result, Anthony was locked up for three days before he was bailed out.
Anthony "was convicted of indecency and insulting the employee," the newspaper says.
After his arrest this week, Anthony launched an appeal, but meanwhile remains in jail.
