Myrtle Beach with Teens: A Perfect Family Day
No one wants to sleep in when they're at the beach and your teenagers are no exception. Hot Stacks Pancake House is the perfect breakfast spot after watching the sunrise or taking that morning swim. Everything from pancakes to waffles, from omelets to egg platters is on the menu. The Deluxe Pancake Breakfast is served up with three pancakes, two eggs, three strips of bacon or two sausages, all for $6.95.
If your teen is a light or picky eater, cereal, muffins or toast are available, but the menu is filled with delicious dishes, designed to please all palates. Don't forget to have the grits-they're an absolute must! Hot Stacks Pancake House has three locations:

After breakfast, challenge your teenagers to a game of miniature golf at Jungle Lagoon. Sure, they may think it's simple to putt a few balls around, but there are two championship 18-hole courses that will keep them on their toes. The aesthetics are pleasing and calming, and include waterfalls, caves, streams, tropical plants, and fountains. There is plenty of room to spread out in the 1000 square foot covered patio with picnic tables.

No doubt your teenagers will spend plenty of time enjoying the sand and surf, but when the sun starts beating down too hard, it's time to take a break. When I was going to Myrtle Beach in the 1970s, The Gay Dolphin gift shop was one of the most popular shopping destinations, and its popularity hasn't faded one bit. The family-owned gift shop is the largest in the nation, has been in Myrtle Beach for 55 years and boasts over 60,000 gifts and souvenirs.

Souvenir shops sell beach towels, tee shirts, and more, but there are other shopping centers at Myrtle Beach. Broadway on the Beach offers shopping, dining and entertainment, ranging from Rack Room Shoes to Tango Bay Clothing Co. The 350-acre complex attracts more than 14 million visitors annually, has 19 restaurants, over 100 specialty shops, movie theaters and live shows. There's also paddle boats, NASCAR SpeedPark, and Pavilion Nostalgia Park, just to name a few! There is no chance anyone could be bored at Broadway on the Beach, not even teenagers; in fact, they might not want to leave--good thing it's open from 10 AM until 11 PM.

Lunch time at the beach practically begs for a hotdog. How much more carefree and casual can it get? Visit Hot Diggity Dogz for a Diggity Double Combo, which comes with two hotdogs, chips and beverage for $7.50. Single dogz can be purchased for $2.50, and what fun it is to choose! The Carolina Dog comes with chili, mustard and slaw, the Surfer Dog is served with melted cheese, bacon bits and mustard, and for those who really like it hot, the Hot Hot Dog comes with spicy mustard, jalapenos, and melted cheese. Also available is pizza by the slice, nachos, pretzels, soda and sweet tea.

Myrtle Beach is all about the ocean, but amusement parks are always a hit with teenagers. Family Kingdom is the city's only seaside amusement park and has a water park to boot. A roller coaster, scrambler, and water flume ride are just a few of the rides that will satisfy the adventuresome side in everyone, while the bumper cars and go-carts will get the adrenalin flowing. The water park offers plenty of opportunity for splashing and cooling off. Each water slide is more exciting than the last, but don't forget about the wild water flume and speed slides. Oh, and then there's the chance to chill out while drifting lazily down the river.

Something about being around water just whets the appetite, so if your teenagers are howling with hunger at dinner time, take them to the Spring House Family Restaurant, which serves up country cooking at reasonable prices. The Country Dinners are just $9.95 and choices include fried chicken, ham, meatloaf, pot roast, and country fried steak. The meal comes with two country vegetables of your choice and bread. Italian specialties are also available, including spaghetti, lasagna, and chicken and shrimp Alfredo.

If you prefer to combine dinner with a show, check out a rousing performance at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. Enjoy a Carriage Room Opening Act fifty minutes before the main show begins as you munch popcorn and peanuts. Then it's on to the 35,000 square foot arena for the grand Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show Extravaganza. Watch them dance, stomp and stampede while eating a dinner of rotisserie chicken, pork, soup, biscuits, corn on the cob, potatoes, dessert and beverage.

So what's not to like about the beach? In addition to the shopping, attractions and dining, there are miles of beaches for walking, looking for seashells and enjoying the view, not to mention sunbathing, fishing and surfing. The Myrtle Beach with teens trip is bound to build lasting memories for you and your teenagers.
