Vail, Colo., is home to the largest ski area in North America and is a world-class destination for families looking for great restaurants, shopping and nightlife. In time-honored ski tradition, happy hour in Vail, or "apres ski" as it's called in this ski town, is one of the best times to kick back, celebrate a successful day of skiing and usher in the night ahead. Visitors will want to check out these top five Vail happy hour restaurants for great drink and food specials as well as live entertainment.


1.Sandbar Sports Grill


The Sandbar Sports Grill is the place to go in Vail for happy hour specials and entertainment for the whole family. Over thirty televisions broadcast all the top college and pro games. The Sandbar also offers free pool tables, shuffleboard and darts.

This happy hour in Vail is every Monday through Friday from 4PM-7PM. It features half-price well drinks and calls, $4 shots and $2.50 Coors, Coors Light and Budweiser bottles. The happy hour menu offers food specials including $2 tacos. The full menu includes great starters, salads, BBQ platters or jam-packed family sampler platters. The Sandbar is hidden away in West Vail off of exit 173. Check the website for special events and dance nights at this popular local bar.

2. Los Amigos


Los Amigos is one of the most happening scenes in Vail for those who want a taste of a real apres ski scene. The Los Amigos patio is open year-round and is one of the best patios in town. Visitors will love watching skiers descend the world-famous Pepi's ski run while they sip cocktails and enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine. The off-season happy hour specials at this local bar in Vail include $3 drafts, $3.50 margaritas and house wines.

3. Red Lion Restaurant & Nightclub


The Red Lion Restaurant & Nightclub is the place to go in Vail for live entertainment. Featuring two shows per night by co-owner and performer Phil Long, the first live set is during the 4-6pm happy hour. Specials usually include $4 wine and well drinks, but check out the changing happy menu for more good deals on drinks and food.

The Red Lion is best known for its "over-the-top" appetizer menu, including tempura fried onion rings, three flavors of chicken wings and two types of quesadillas. The Red Lion is located right at the base of Vail ski area in the heart of town and is sure to offer a party atmosphere every day from 1pm to 1am.

4. The Tap Room


The Tap Room offers a laid-back, social atmosphere that is family oriented by day and a popular Vail local bar by night. Happy hour is from 3pm to 6pm each day and includes $2 Coors Light and Miller Light drafts, $3 house wines and $4 margaritas and well drinks.

The happy hour menu contains a different food special every day to satiate the hungriest of appetites. For example, try the $5 all-you-can-eat wings on Mondays and go for the $7 burger and Coors Light draft special on Tuesdays. Enjoy several types of brats and dogs on Saturday Dog Days.

5. Saltwater Cowboy


The Saltwater Cowboy features great live music and is one of the better deals for cash-strapped locals and visitors in Vail. Happy hour specials are offered every day from 3PM-6PM and all day on Mondays. Prices on the happy hour menu range from $1-$3 depending on whether you want a cocktail or something simpler.

In terms of food, the Saltwater Cowboy is known for its great seafood and wild game specials. Enjoy a buffalo sirloin, lamb burger or wild boar brats. Then after you eat, try your hand at the many arcade games at this fun, local bar in Vail.
