The public has voted and the Fountain on Locust in St. Louis has been named the place with "America's Best Restroom" for 2010. The facilities at the vintage ice cream parlor were recognized for their hand-painted murals, ornate fixtures and designer mirrors.
"We are absolutely thrilled and honored to have been chosen by the public as having the Best Restrooms in America," says Joy Christensen, owner of the Fountain on Locust.
"We put a lot of thought and effort into the design and construction, and we are certain that many of our customers come back because they know our bathrooms are not just unique but also clean."
She adds the national recognition means a lot to the restaurant's staff.
In its 9th year, the contest attracted nominations of public restrooms from a cross-section of businesses including restaurants, hotels and theaters. Ten finalists were selected and the public invited to vote for their favorite restroom online.
The contest is sponsored by Cintas Corporation, a leading provider of restroom hygiene products and services. The company says tens of thousands of votes were cast.
In second place was the restroom at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, done up with Italian Carerra marble and bronze and crystal chandeliers. The third place spot went to the Beaux Arts design bathrooms at New York''s Bryant Park.

Is this restroom adapted for people with disabilities?

The Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles provides the most exquisite REAL soft hand towels but the really best restroom in the WORLD is at our Four Seasons hotel where each handicapped stall has its OWN counter, sink and yes, real hand towels as well.

If you fly first class with Lufthansa and stop over in Frankfurt you'll see what I mean. First class with Lufthansa is the best I've ever seen from British Air to Air India, Swissair and Qantas. Qantas business class is pretty darn good though..upstairs in a 747.
September 24 2010 at 1:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThere is a pair of amazing restrooms somewhere in a theatre in Branson, Missouri where there is a pool table in the men's restroom and the ladie's room has fresh flowers and gold fixtures. The walls and floors are marble and they are fantastic!

September 24 2010 at 12:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is a pertinent article because so many of us use public restrooms.
Based upon the photo, I'd say that it is beautiful; better than any hotel room or hotel lobby restroom, bar/restaurant restroom I have ever 'visited.' I have been to many five star restaurants/hotels and can't recall such good tastes in public bathrooms.
The best public restroom, in a private hotel room or lobby/bar/restaurant I have ever been in is The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. That entire place is so elegant turn-of-the-century, it makes me feel like a rich rancher or oilman back in the day. I also like The Fairmount on Nob Hill in San Francisco. The Pfister, however, has telephones and TV's in the guest room baths.
Let us bloggers know where you have found your most elegant public restroom - and, don't include fast food chains, even though they are nicely maintained.
Taking a dump in any public toilet is a major undertaking for me....Anyone else share this phobia?
