For anyone who has ever thought of stealing a hotel towel, consider the case of Bilikisu Dowodu.

A court in the Nigerian capital of Abuja has convicted the woman of stealing two towels and an iron from the Transcorp Hilton Abuja. She was ordered to pay about $20 or spend three months in jail.

Dowodu was nabbed with the goods in a bag by a Hilton security guard as she left the property.

Conspiracy was involved in the theft, a police prosecutor testified.

"The accused... conspired with one Jane of room number 864, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, now at large, to steal a pressing iron, hand towel and face towel from the room, thereby committing offenses punishable under Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code," the prosecutor said.

Dowodu pleaded guilty in court, though she said she was just carrying the bag as a favor to her pal.

OMG you have got to be kidding me..... Its not like the towels are perfectly clean anyway... and plus arent hotels supposed to toss them after a couple of months... I mean the iron is a bit excessive but come on AMERICA!!!!! Who ever had the cops come get her should be thrown in jail for nonsense and whomever arrested her obviously had too much time on their hands.. and whomever covered this "story" should be fired because clearly they are not talented enough to find a story more important.

I still don't understand why anyone would want to steal hotel towels. STAY HOME AND BUY SOME TOWELS if you are that desperate.

I work in a hotel nothing too fancy just a little two star , our biggest guest complaint that ends up causing people to get refunds on part of their stay , not enough towels.. The hotel spends so much money trying to keep towels in stock that they have actually had to cut the amount of time a housekeeper has to to clean her rooms in a day in order to pay for it. When we are sold out there are never enough towels for everyone bc they are stolen so much. I cant get a raise bc we are spending so much money on things that people take from the rooms. It is selfish and crazy for these people to take these things. Your room might run you only 55 dollars for a night in the off season so minus the 750 the housekeeper gets to clean up your mess, the electric, your free long distance, your free internet, the 10 free cups of coffee from the lobby your free newspaper, the hot water you use, the repair to the ac BC you froze it up leaving it on with the door open and finally what they pay me to check you in. Where is there any money left to pay for another set of 25 towels with our logo on them BC you thought you were entitled to take a set from your room?

As I said earlier (in case you missed it after my comment was deleted) Nigeria is a country a half step above anarchy (Somalia and Sudan). The GNP is comprised of oil revenue and then revenue from national pasttime of cheating and theft. This is a country of liars, thieves, cheats and scam artists. Children are taught from birth to grab and steal everything around them. Those that survive to adulthood are promoted to government positions. Read the news. Twice a week there is an oil or gas pipe explosion that kills hundreds as they try to puncture and siphon pipelines. I receive 30 spams a week from Nigerian scammers. Theft, crime and cheating are both the national pastimes and the main source of jobs.

Steal all the towels you want, NO BIG DEAL! I've been to hundreds of hotels in my lifetime, they expect you steal stuff that's why they charge such OVERPRICED FRICKING RATES, you buffoons!!!! I hve NEVER got caught, and I have hundreds of towels, coffees, Bibles, soaps, shampoos, even a hair dryer or 2. As for the little stuff, fill your suitcase, then call roomservice and ask for more, guess what, the buffoons bring more, I LOVE it. I make damn sure i get my monies worth when I check out, baby!!!
