Travelers rank fees for Wi-Fi as the charge they most resent, in a new poll on hotel extras. More than three in four of travelers surveyed by Hotels.com opined that Wi-Fi access at hotels should be free.
Nearly as many, 73 percent, say they resent hotels charging for parking. They are also peeved to have to pay for bottled water, the morning newspaper and towels at the gym, in that order.
The poll also found that 80 percent of travelers believe minibars are a rip-off, with 74 percent saying they try to avoid them.
More than half of the travelers (56 percent) say they end up questioning their bill at check-out, to make sure they are not charged for extra extras.
The survey was of 1,815 British travelers.
The bottom line is that travelers are finding "hotel extras can really add up," says Hotels.com UK communications director Alison Couper.

Do you agree that hotels were built in and by Generation X, this might be an explanation why an utility such Internet is not included in the €300 room. It is absurd that a low-mid level hotel chain can afford this extra cost. This is the problem of the hotel industry - average service that do not stand out for each of their guest. We, as individuals, have different tastes and needs, which makes us unique. This is what www.mysnooze.com is busy with, helping hotels to go the extra mile for each of their customer and create a meaningful experience (not just selling a room).

Charging a hotel guest for WiFi is like charging them for the electricity and water they use. Free Wifi is non-negotiable when I am looking online for a hotel.
