After a day in Maui that's been chock full of sun-bleached activities and tropical adventures, there are few things better than to kick back at a local bar and enjoy an ice cold beer and some happy hour food specials. With Maui such a melting pot of multicultural influence, many restaurant appetizer menus across the island feature mouth watering ethnic cuisine that you can find at heavily discounted prices, saving you enough money to wash it back with a tropical cocktail or a local brew. With scores of beach bars, restaurants and hole in the walls to choose from, here are six Maui happy hours that will whet your palate and quench your thirst--without breaking your wallet.

Umalu

4-6PM daily
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort Hotel
200 Nohea Kai Drive
Lahaina, HI 96761
808-661-1234

Best deal: Kobe beef sliders for $4

Better known as the Hyatt Regency's poolside bar, Umalu is a laid-back establishment with upscale cuisine in a casual beachside setting. A great place in Maui to start off the happy hour is with an order of the Kobe beef sliders, which at only $4 are over half off of the regular menu price. Draft beers come in at $3 as well or, for anyone looking for a combo order, check out the happy hour "Burger and Bud" special, which features a hefty burger and either a Budweiser or Bud Light draft for only $12. While a little pricier than many other happy hours on the island, considering it is smack in the middle of a resort district and set right on popular Kaanapali Beach, Umalu is a great place for visitors to enjoy the live local music poolside or for locals to splurge a little and pretend like they're on vacation.

Kimo's
3-5PM daily
845 Front St.
Lahaina HI 96761
808-661-4811

Best deal: Half off Mu Shu Kalua Pork appetizer

A longtime staple of the Lahaina Front Street restaurant scene, Kimo's is set right out overlooking the water and is a favorite Lahaina watering hole for locals and visitors alike. While their dinner menu, waterfront setting and attentive service get most of the attention, their daily happy hour features some extraordinary specials from the appetizer menu that can make walking in the door a few hours early worth the trip. A local favorite is the Mu Shu Kalua Pork, a Hawaiian dish that features succulent pork served over juicy cabbage, and for happy hour you can pick it up at 50 percent off at only $4.95. Wash it back with a $2.50 draft beer and this is classic Maui oceanfront dining where you can still get a meal and a drink for under 10 bucks.

Mulligans on the Blue
4-6PM daily
100 Kaukahi St.
Wailea, HI 96753
808-874-1131

Best deal: Half off everything on the appetizer menu

Somewhat of a south Maui hideaway, this happening Irish pub isn't set down by the shimmering shoreline, but rather sits up the slopes a bit in the center of a well-manicured Wailea golf course. Regardless of its tucked-away location, Maui's best Irish pub always has a hopping bar scene and live local music, and they feature one of the most international beer selections on the island, coupled with a succulent selection of local island favorites to munch on. At the daily happy hour, you can order anything off of the appetizer menu at half off, including the exotic Cajun-seared ahi tuna and other fresh seafood plates, most of which will run you about $4-$5. Cajun tuna got a kick? Wash it away with one of the many European drafts, all of which come in at $1 off during the happiest hour in Wailea.

Polli's Mexican Restaurant
4-5:30PM Monday-Friday
1202 Makawao Ave.
Makawao HI 96768
(808) 572-7808

Best deal: Tacos and nachos for $2.50, and $4 classic margaritas

Frequently voted Maui's best Mexican restaurant, Polli's is a longtime Maui favorite located "Upcountry" in the eclectic ranching town of Makawao, quietly set on the island's north shore. A vibrant, homey establishment that features authentic Mexican artwork and local surf photography, the sign out front reads "Come in and eat or we'll both starve!" During the Monday-Friday happy hour, you can pick up tacos and nachos at a heavily discounted $2.50, and kick the jalapenos back with a $3 domestic beer, 3.25 well drinks or $4 classic margaritas. Two tacos and a margarita on Maui for under $10? That's a good local happy hour.

Milagros Food Company
11AM-6PM daily
3 Baldwin Ave.
Paia HI 96779
808-579-8755

Best deal: Kona Brewing Company draft beers and house margaritas for $3

Another north shore favorite, Milagro's is set right on the corner of the only intersection in Paia and, aside from the possibility of rubbing shoulders with world-class big wave surfers and windsurfers, what makes the Milagro's happy hour so special is that pretty much as long as the sun is out, it's happy hour at Milagro's. Running daily from 11-6PM, the greatest allure is the wide selection of local Kona Brewing Company drafts and house margaritas for only $3. Day-boozing with a big group of friends? Go for an order of the massive nachos, which though priced at $9, are large enough to accommodate the stomachs of a fiending crowd.

Hula Grill's Barefoot Bar
3-5PM daily
Whalers Village
2435 Kaanapali Parkway
Lahaina, HI, 96761
808-667-6636

Best deal: $5 pizza and $2.50-$3.75 draft beers

Set smack in the heart of Kaanapali, this Whaler's Village beachfront bar is better known as the one with the sand all over the floor. Backing up right against the bustling Ka'anapali beachfront walkway, Hula Grill's Barefoot Bar is the quintessential carefree Maui establishment where the vibe is strong and the good times roll. Hungry from a morning full of stand-up paddling or snorkeling? Hit up the barefoot bar for a $5 happy hour pizza and wash it down with a $2.50-$3.75 draft beer, the perfect combination after a long day in the sun.
