American Discounts Short-Hop Flights Using Frequent Flyer Miles

American Airlines AAdvantage members can get a deal on short flights using award travel if they book by the end of the month.

With the new "short-hop" promotion, use only 8,750 AAdvantage frequent flyer miles each way (17,500 round-trip) to fly American routes of under 700 miles in the U.S. and Canada.

That's 30 percent less than the miles normally required.

Sample routes for the "short-hop" deal include Dallas/Fort Worth to Denver, Memphis or Santa Fe; New York to Boston or Montreal; and Miami to Atlanta, Charleston or New Orleans.

The special is on flights operated by American, American Eagle or AmericanConnection carriers.

Travel is through December 15. The booking deadline is August 31.

It looks like a good move by the company, and it might be a good deal for some. I'm with Damus, though. I'll save the miles for a major trip.

This promotion doesn't really can fly from LAX to SFO for $ I would rather keep the points for a bigger trip where I get more bang for the buck for the points.
