A Chicago-area man is suing Southwest Airlines claiming flight attendants failed to protect his 14-year-old son from another passenger's advances. The man says an older female passenger made sexual advances toward the teenager and offered him illegal drugs, during a flight to Orlando, according to The Associated Press.
The suit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, says the incident occurred on July 13, 2008. The family is asking for more than $50,000 in damages.
Chicago Attorney Jeffrey Deutschman tells Fox Chicago News that the teenager asked to be assigned to a different seat, but the flight attendants would not let him move.
"My client was a 14-year-old little boy when he was aggressively, sexually pursued by an older passenger who offered him drugs, who wanted sex from him," Deutschman says. "He went to the bathroom four times, he asked to move and he was told to take his seat."
The boy was so frightened by the experience that he refused to return home by himself, so his father flew down to accompany him home, according to the suit.
A spokesman for Southwest Airlines declined comment.

The boy asked to be moved. He was not accommodated. His request should have been honored. Not all 14 year old boys are built like athletes; mine isn't. My son spent at least 5 years being called Steve Urkel by just about all of our neighbors because of his slight build, his eyeglasses and his tendency to indulge in all things electronic. Not all 14 year old boys are accustomed to sexual advances from anyone, let alone a grown azzed woman. My son is 14 and he covered his ears and his eyes when his year old pet rottie got excited while on a walk and his private area came unsheathed. Some 14 year old boys are bashful and have been raised in loving, respectful and protective environments. My son knows that when he needs to know more about the opposite sex that his father and I are prepared to enlighten him through talking, listening and exposing him to the vast array of research materials that exist specifically for that reason. If this had been a 14 year old girl seated next to a pervert all hell would have broken loose. Every 14 year old boy is not some know it all waiting for a chance to score. Some are still little boys, growing up at just the right pace.

If so, he should have had a parent or some responsible adult traveling with him. In a similar situation on the ground would he have stood still and not have screamed, physically struck out or run like hell toward anyone who was around to help him?..Enough of the sue, sue, sue mentality...When will we begin to take responsibility for our own actions and when will attorneys and judges tell their clients to go home and grow up and stop wasting their time over such trivial matters...Cases like this one absolutely infuriate me...Lets begin to place the blame where it belongs which in this case was the negligent parent who should have thought ahead about the safety of his socially immature child.
July 17 2010 at 11:55 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDear God when will people take some responsibility for themselves instead of expecting an airline to become completely accountable for them???? What is it with airline passengers here in America? You buy a ticket for travel and you expect so much more than that. You drag your suitcase filled with the items You packed and when you get to the airport you suddenly are helpless, paralized and cant lift your own bag. You manage to give birth and drag along your offspring but you dont bring diapers or formula. And God forbid you should have to pay a buck or two for a water or soda.. although youd have no problem stopping at 7-11 and paying much more. And of course everything is the airlines fault. I think you have forgotten what service the airline is providing.. Transportation!!! Get over this SUE mentality and the Helplessness people!!!

YOU HAVE TO STATE "LOUDLY" WHY YOU WANT TO SIT
ELSEWHERE.
ALSO,AFTER THE STEWARDESS DECLINED TO MOVE YOU- - -
YOUR ONLY HOPE WAS:
1. SIT IN THE BACK NEAR THE BATHROOMS. REFUSE TO MOVE AND AGAIN STATE WHY,"LOUDLY".
2. MAKE SURE OTHER PASSENGERS KNOW OF YOUR DILEMMA.
3. ASK OTHER PASSENGERS TO SWITCH SEATS WITH YOU,
TELLING THEM THE REASON WHY.
SHAME ON THE AIRLINES!!!!
